At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Norwood Town Board heard from Wright’s Mesa resident Lory Herndon, who asked if the town would be willing to donate a parcel of land to be used as a community garden. The board was very interested in the idea and agreed to look for an appropriate location for the project.
The garden would be largely run by young people, such as Prime Time’s BASE Camp students, as well as by members of the Norwood Garden Club and other volunteers. It has been proposed that the harvest be given back to the community to be used in the senior citizen lunch program, at Prime Time Early Learning Center, or similar areas of need. Once some land is acquired, volunteers will be needed to help prepare the beds, put up fences, plant seeds, etc. The community garden group hopes to organize a good base of people who are willing to work with people young and old. For more information, contact Lory Herndon at 327-4557 or email Emily Nichols at prayalwaz@yahoo.com.
