TELLURIDE - Longtime Telluride resident Adam Stetson, 49, was found dead in his apartment at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, of apparent heart failure.

According to San Miguel County Coroner Emil Sante, Stetson died from "severe arteriosclerotic heart disease."

When Stetson didn’t show up for work at Camel’s Garden on Friday, a co-worker checking in at his Creekside apartment found him unresponsive. The Telluride Ambulance and Telluride Marshal’s Office responded to a call, but found Stetson had apparently died some time before.

Stetson was perhaps best-known as a member of the KOTO-radio family, frequenting the radio waves as a DJ and working at KOTO’s many special events. A devoted fan of bluegrass music, he worked in Lyons for Planet Bluegrass, producer of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, for a period of time.

A memorial service for Stetson will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 4-7 p.m., at Oak restaurant at the base of Chair 8. It is a potluck; beer will be provided. Feel free to bring an instrument.

Stetson is survived by his father, Andy Hiken; mother, Bonnie Ballantyne; sister, Debbie Trout; sister, Elizabeth Livingston and brother, Brent Ballentine, as well as many friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crippin Funeral Home. Donations in Stetson’s name can be made to KOTO. For more info on Tuesday’s memorial, call Suzanne at 708-1598.
