MONTROSE – Chipeta Days, the annual event at the Ute Indian Museum to commemorate the life of Chipeta, wife of Ute Chief Ouray, will not be held this year, said museum director C.J. Brafford.

But that doesn’t mean the event is gone forever, she said. It will return next year.

Brafford said the museum board is re-evaluating its tight budget and will put more effort into educational activities this year, as well as look for more ways to raise money so the event can go on again in 2012 and carry on the tradition.
