DOLORES – The Dolores Rotary Club is sponsoring a bike rodeo immediately after the evening Kiddie Parade on Friday, Aug. 12, starting at 6:30 p.m., in the parking lot behind Dolores Medical Center located at 507 Central Avenue.

The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Dept will be on-site to address bike safety and teach the rules of the road; participants can hone their riding skills on several courses designed to promote safe riding skills. All participants will receive a helmet and a gift bag, and may also register to win either a girl’s or boy’s bike. For further information please contact Neal Stephens at 970/564-4440.

The next morning brings the 13th annual Escalante Days Mountain Bike Race, starting at 9:50 a.m., at 6th and Central in Dolores, with cash prizes for winners in the Expert race category and prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in Beginner, Sport, and Single Speed race classes.

Anyone beating the Expert course record and the first racer to cross the cattle guard will be awarded $100. Race proceeds from the race go to benefit Rotary youth, community and international service projects. Volunteers are needed. Contact Jason Strickland at jeliotstrickland@gmail.com or 970/676-1129.
