MONTROSE — An armed robber dressed in camouflage got away with an undisclosed amount of cash from Alpine Bank on East Main Street Friday morning, and law enforcement officers are looking for him.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is involved in the investigation for the robbery, said Montrose Police Cmdr. Gene Lillard, which took place at 9:40 a.m.

Bank cameras captured the robber’s image, who is described as having a muscular build, about 180 pounds and between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall.

Lillard said the man was wearing sunglasses, a green and brown camouflage patterned hat and shirt, and a dust mask covering his lower face. He was unshaven with sideburns, he said, and could have blond hair. He also appeared to have pierced ears, but was wearing no jewelry.

According to an FBI wanted poster, the suspect “showed a handgun, received money and fled.”

Anyone who has information on the suspect is asked to call the FBI at 303-629-7171, Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, or the Montrose Police Department at 252-4010.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, Lillard said.

Because many Montrose Police were at a training exercise that Friday morning, the response to the robbery was swift, Lillard said.

“We flooded the area pretty quick in marked units and are still working on leads,” he said. Further information about the robbery will come from through FBI’s Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, he added.
