MOUNTAIN VILLAGE – Four of seven Mountain Village Town Council seats are up for grabs in the coming June election, and with only one incumbent in the race, Town Hall is poised to see a significant changing of the guard.
David Schillaci, who has held a seat on the Mountain Village Town Council since he was appointed shortly after the last election two years ago, will be the only incumbent on the ballot. Although current councilmember Chris Cox initially filed a letter of intent to run, he withdrew his name last week. Other current councilmembers Dan Garner and Jonathon Greenspan have reached their two-term limits and so cannot seek reelection. Richard Child, Cath Jett, and Mayor Bob Delves will retain their seats.
Joining Schillaci on the June 28 ballot are five ballot newcomers: Jonette Bronson; Michelle Sherry; John Howe; Hillary Mescall; and Dan Jansen.
Bronson is a psychologist who operates an office in the Mountain Village core, and has been a permanent resident since 2002. Sherry is a longtime resident of the area who serves on Mountain Village’s Design Review Board and owns local landscaping company Telluride Landworks.
Howe is a retired fire chief from Florida who now owns THAM, Inc., a local property management company. He has been a resident since 2001 and currently serves as the secretary of the San Miguel Democratic Party.
Mescall has been both a part-time and full-time resident, first purchasing property in Mountain Village in 2000, then moving here full-time in 2008. Prior to 2008 she worked as a building contractor and interior designer specializing in luxury homes in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and Telluride. She was a member of the Mountain Village Comprehensive Plan Task Force.
Jansen is the founder and CEO of Virtual Greats, a social media company, who has been a full-time resident of Mountain Village for the last four years.
Schillaci is the current manager of the Mountain Village Market, who has lived in Mountain Village since 1992. Schillaci served on the Mountain Village Comprehensive Plan Task Force, and ran for Town Council in the last election. Although he did not win that election, he was the next-highest vote-getter, and was eventually appointed t a council seat after another Town Councilmember had to step down.
The mail ballot election will take place June 28, with the new council to take office at the next scheduled meeting in July. The deadline to register to vote in Mountain Village is May 31. Ballots will be mailed out beginning approximately June 6, and must be received by the Town Clerk no later than 7 p.m. on June 28.
