San Miguel County to Open DMV Office in Norwood
SAN MIGUEL COUNTY – San Miguel County residents will no longer have to travel to access the services of the Department of Motor Vehicles, as of next year. The San Miguel County Clerk and Recorder has obtained approval for a branch Motor Vehicle Office in the Lone Cone Building, at 1120 Summit St., in Norwood. Final details and logistics are being worked out for the branch office, which is expected to open in July of 2011.
“We are very pleased to have received final approval from the Colorado Department of Revenue to open this full-service branch Motor Vehicle office, to be staffed by Vicki Gallob of Norwood,” said San Miguel County Clerk and Recorder Peggy Nerlin.
“You will be able to renew your license plates, bring in title work and request a license, and obtain plates for your vehicle – all right here in town,” Nerlin said. “We are very excited to offer these services to residents of Norwood and the West End of San Miguel County.”
Those who have questions are encouraged to call the Motor Vehicle Department at the San Miguel County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, at 970/728-3954.
George Cain Honored With Tenth Annual Fundraiser Bike Ride
TELLURIDE - George Cain always wanted to be a firefighter.
Cain died while living that dream, as one of the many members of the NYFD Engine Company #7 who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Although he spent most of his time in New York City, Cain would save up his vacation pay to come spend to Telluride every winter, becoming friends with longtime locals, including Telluride firefighters.
Now in its tenth year, The George Cain Memorial Bike Ride is a supported two-day ride that travels from Telluride to Moab, with riders camping out at the halfway point near Bedrock; it takes the third weekend in May. “It's a good opportunity to honor George,” says organizer Dave Crockett.
For more information about the ride, call 970/728-0232 or 970/708-2432.
Angel Memorial Tree
SAN MIGUEL COUNTY - Everyone is invited to add a symbolic ornament in memory of a loved one to the decorated memorial Angel Tree at the intersection of Colorado State Highway 145 and Highway 62, below Placerville. The Angel Tree was inspired by the beautiful spirits and memories of Cody Simonian and Jessica Craft, who died tragically and prematurely; over the years, Hoot Brown, Hillary Fitzgerald, Noreen Morton, Remy Booth, Billy Poole, Blade, Fred Overman, Kevin Green, Chad Mullins and many more have been commemorated by Angel Tree, as well. All ornaments are saved; the tree is decorated in December, every year.
