Lady Mavericks head to States

NORWOOD – The Norwood Lady Mavericks volleyball team will travel to Denver this weekend to play in the 1A State Championship Tournament at the Denver Coliseum.

Norwood’s state volleyball action starts Friday, when they take on Merino High School in its first match of the tournament, which will be followed by a match against Otis High School. On Saturday, Norwood will then take on McClave High School.

The Lady Mavericks are coming off victories against Sierra Grande High School and Mountain Valley High School at last weekend’s Regional Tournament in Gunnison.

Norwood Takes Undefeated Record to Next Round of Playoffs

NORWOOD – After routing the Sanford Indians in last week’s first-round playoff with a score of 54-14, the Norwood Mavericks Eight-Man football squad will continue its quest for a state championship in this Saturday with a quarterfinal playoff matchup against Walsh High School in Norwood at 1 p.m.

Norwood goes into the game undefeated at 10-0 with Walsh coming in with a record of 9-1. Walsh also handily beat its first-round opponent, Sedgwick County, by a score of 58-15 in last week’s action.

Lady Miners Fall Short of State Tournament

TELLURIDE – The Telluride Lady Miners’ run to State Tournament in Denver ended last weekend when they were defeated by Rangely High School in the Regional Tournament held at Palisade High School.

Telluride lost to Rangely in a 3-0 match.

Durango Downs Montrose, Playoffs No Longer a Reality

MONTROSE – The hopes of making a postseason run to a state championship ended for the Montrose Indians when they lost to Durango High School on Nov. 5, 27-30.

The loss marked the end of a five-year run at making it to the playoffs. The Indians finished the season with a record of 5-5.
