OURAY – A final fund raising event, just days before the deadline to have full funding in place to purchase the Wright Opera House, has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Ouray Brewery from 5-7 p.m.
An appetizer buffet will be provided with a cash bar. For each pint sold, $1 will be contributed to the opera house fund along with an auction for a day working with the biermeister, learning how to make beer. Donations of any size will be welcome at the door.
According to Dee Williams, chair of the Friends of the Wright Opera House, a recent surge of donations has put the purchase close to reality. All October contributions are being matched by an anonymous donor up to a total of $65,000.
“This match has made an amazing difference in how fast we are moving to our goal,” Williams said. “We have about $30,000 to go on the match. At our current rate, we expect that a successful event at the Ouray Brewery might push it over the top to meet our Oct. 31 deadline to save the $75,000 grant from the Gates Family Foundation of Denver.
“We will then have the total funds needed to go forward with an immediate closing on the property. We hope the many supporters of this huge project will meet for this final event to complete the purchase phase and celebrate the success they have created.”
