Hey everyone.  On Wednesday night, I was listening to "Fresh Air" on NPR.  Terry Gross was interviewing the investigative journalist Florence Williams about her new book Breasts: A Natural and Unnatural History.

She did mention some of the leading chemicals that accumulate in the fatty tissue in the breasts that increase the risk of breast cancer.  Pesticides, BPA, and phthalates were all mentioned.

But they did talk about something I did not know.  Male U.S. Marines at Camp Lejeune have become the biggest cluster of men who have breast cancer.  The groundwater under the base is the most contaminated groundwater ever tested by E.P.A..  Among the chemical culprits causing those cancers is benzene. If you remember in my letter to the editor about toxic fragrances, phthalates are made from benzene. 

Dudes, get this book for all the women in your lives.  I have ordered it because there are many new studies about toxic chemicals.  As the author stated, these same chemicals cause cancer in other parts of the body, as well as endocrine system disruption and genital birth defects.
