For the last 29 years we have seen how dedicated Bob Dempsey has been to the San Miguel County Coroner job. For most of those years he did the job not for the salary (there was none), but as a community service and because over the years it became part of him.
Some people think the job doesn’t require much time, effort, or knowledge. We know differently. The part of the job that some people see on a scene is only a small portion of what the coroner does. The administrative portion that begins afterward is the most time consuming and challenging. We watched Bob spend considerable time and effort to improve his abilities by building a large network of other professionals throughout the state, attending countless continuing education courses, doing his own research, and developing efficient techniques.
Doing a good job has always been very important to him. We agree with Art Goodtimes, who in his “Up Bear Creek” column recently said, “I was impressed with the amount of work the coroner has to do. It’s a job Dempsey has been doing for a long time. And well… So, I’m over it. No more kvetching about Bob’s salary. From the look of things, he earns it.”
This race isn’t about party politics for us. What does the coroner job have to do with political parties? For us, it’s about keeping the person with proven ability and dedication in office. He has earned it. Replacing his years of experience would be a loss for San Miguel County. We plan to vote for Bob Dempsey, and hope you will join us.
