Yoginis Kimberly Galler and Sharon Caplan have joined forces with Robyn Van Gelder as the Yoga Center’s new “team de force,” each breathing the pranayama of yogic chi into the beloved community establishment. In Sanskrit, yoga means “to unite,” and continuing the tradition of uniting the Telluride community in the practice of yoga rests at the heart of this new partnership.
“It’s about bringing the community together and sharing the incredible resources we have here,” explains Van Gelder of the Telluride Yoga Center, which opened in 1999 under the direction of yogini Melanie Law. Van Gelder became an owner five years ago, alongside Christopher Beaver and Deb Cardoza, will now work to guide the organization into the future alongside new partners Caplan and Galler (Beaver and Cardoza are no longer owners).
Caplan and Galler, both instructors at the Center, jumped at the opportunity to become a part of Telluride’s most diverse yoga facility.
“I wanted to be part of the bigger picture, trying to help generate this wonderful service for our community,” Caplan said.
The new owners are determined to continue the spirit of community service upon which the Center was originally built. As Galler explains, the Telluride Yoga Center isn’t simply a place to come and do yoga: It’s a place where people passionate about yoga – and pilates, tai chi, meditation, even kung fu – can gather under one roof to share their passion.
“That’s what makes our studio so unique – it’s not just for one type of student or one kind of teacher. There’s truly something for everyone,” she said.
The Yoga Center’s current calendar boasts more than 30 different classes, taught by 15 instructors. The Center has expanded its studio space to include Studio B, a smaller, more intimate studio adjacent to the main studio in the Nugget Building. New classes have begun there; in February, new classes will come online at popular times, thanks to the additional space.
The winter calendar boasts an array of special workshops focusing on a range of styles, from Jivamukti to Anusara and Hatha Yoga.
