Brenda Carns to Begin Sept. 30
TELLURIDE – After more than a month searching for an interim library director, the Wilkinson Public Library Board of Trustees announced Wednesday that it chose former Fort Collins Library District director Brenda Carns to fill the position. Carns will begin working on Monday, Sept. 30, and is expected to serve as the interim director for six months.
Carns’ primary responsibilities will be to assist the Board of Trustees in a search for a permanent director and to assist the volunteer library Board of Trustees in drafting the 2014 budget.
Carns, with a Bachelor’s from CSU Fresno and a Master’s of Library Science from the University of Denver, boasts impressive credentials in library administration. She was the director of the Fort Collins Library from 1997-2006. By the end of her tenure in 2008, she transformed the Fort Collins Library into a district library system, winning voter approval for the district and annual funding of $8 million.
“…Brenda emerged as someone who understood Wilkinson Public Library and the community it serves and who could steer the library through a time of belt-tightening without losing sight of its essential role in Telluride,” said Library Board President Judy Thompson.
