Your vote is vital. Make it count!

If you have not yet registered to vote in the Nov. 4 Presidential Election, you have until Oct. 6 to do so. If your address has changed, or if you have not voted in the past two general elections, you must update your registration by Oct. 6.

Your registration status can be determined with a phone call to the Clerk and Recorder’s Office at 970/728-3954, or by visiting www.sanmiguelcounty.org and clicking on “Elections.” You may also verify your registration via the Colorado Secretary of State web site at www.state.sos.co.us, by clicking on the “Elections” home page.

Should you decide to use the convenient, vote-by-mail option, a mail-in ballot application can be downloaded from the elections link on the San Miguel County web site. Those who opt to vote in person, whether during early voting or on Election Day, will need to bring an acceptable form of identification. Acceptable forms of ID are posted on our web site, and include a valid Colorado Driver’s license, a valid United States Passport or a Medicare card.

If you are already a registered, active voter, watch the mail for your San Miguel County 2008 Voter Guide.

This year’s ballot will be lengthy, with multiple pages. For your convenience, we will post ballot content on our web site, and publish it in the Telluride Watch, the Daily Planet, the Norwood Post and the Dove Creek Press.

For questions concerning your polling location, other acceptable forms of identification, whether or not you have already signed up to receive a mail-in ballot, or anything else related to the upcoming election, please call our election department at 728-3954. I can also be reached by email at peggyn@sanmiguelcounty.org.
