TELLURIDE – It’s been a winter to remember in Telluride, with close to 30 feet of snow, and now it’s time to mark the end of the remarkable ski season with a party to match. In typical Telluride fashion, the locals are celebrating with live music and a good cause. KOTO, Telluride’s community radio station, kicks off closing weekend with their annual street dance on Friday, April 4.

New for this year, the street dance will be held on main street between Aspen and Fir streets. Headlining the event is Toubab Krewe, an up-and-coming band from North Carolina.

“Asheville, N.C., may not seem like a stronghold for African-rooted music, but Toubab Krewe has soaked up the patterns and rhythms of music from Mali, Zimbabwe, Congo, Brazil, and the Caribbean and added a hint of Jerry Garcia’s legato guitar,” Jon Pareles of the New York Times wrote of the band’s performance at the 2006 Bonnaroo Music Festival.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. and admission is free. Local favorite, performer Ralph Dinosaur and his Fabulous Volcanoes, will open and between acts KOTO will hold its annual “Pink Flamingo” Costume Contest with prizes donated by community businesses.

The KOTO Street Dance is a fund-raising event for Telluride’s independent radio station and held in partnership with New Belgium Brewing.

Beyond skiing, Telluride and Mountain Village celebrate the end of the season with a variety of specials at local eateries and shops. Helitrax, the only helicopter skiing operator in Colorado, is offering up to 10 percent off packages through April 13. Along main street in Telluride and in the Mountain Village core, savings of up to 70 percent off winter apparel and sports gear are available. Many restaurants will also have dining specials including complimentary appetizer with the purchase of two dinner entrées at 9545 Restaurant & Bar and end of season wine specials at Excelsior Café.

End of Season Ski & Stay Packages are available starting from $111 per person, per night including three-nights lodging and two-day lift tickets for two adults. (Some restrictions may apply.) Package details and booking information available at Telluride Central Reservations, 800/245-2293 or
