Voters have three candidates to choose from in the November general election for the position of San Miguel County Clerk and Recorder, currently held by Doris Ruffe, who will be retiring at the end of the year after 25 years of service in the clerk's office, the last five of them as county clerk. The contest is among Republican Karen Gauvey, Democrat Peggy Nerlin, and Independent Helen Schumack.

Responsibilities of the clerk and recorder include registering all motor vehicles in the county, coordinating elections, and recording all documents, plat maps, surveys, and property deeds.
