Four Telluride Freestyle Team mogul competitors earned Colorado Gold Passes based on their athletic achievements in last year's Rocky Mountain Freestyle divisional competitions and their present state of physical fitness. Hannah Smith, Jarrett Arguelles, Jimmy Discoe, and Joe Discoe were selected from the United States Ski Association's Rocky Mountain Division points list to join Colorado's top free-style skiers, ski racers, Nordic skiers and snowboarders in Boulder to participate in physical fitness tests and seminars for competitive athletes.

As both a promotional event and to recognize past accomplishments and support future endeavors of Colorado's top ranked snow riders, Colorado Ski Country USA awards Colorado Gold Passes to all who qualify. The Colorado Gold Pass provides unlimited and unrestricted access to 24 Colorado ski resorts.

Less than five percent of Colorado's top snow riders were eligible to participate in this program. Along with posting top finishes in last season's competitive season, the athletes also had to pass the U.S. Ski Team's "medals test."

The medals test is "basically a gauge to determine a skier's over all fitness and show where they are strong and where they are weak," said Caleb Martin, Program Director for the Telluride Freestyle Team. The medals test includes shuttle runs, sprints, box jumps, a one-legged hop and other speed and stamina drills. Additionally, the athletes attended a seminar on nutrition and will partake in an upcoming discussion on performance enhancing drugs and drug testing in the sports world.

In the meantime, The Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club is ramping up for the approaching season. Dry-land training has begun for club members of all ages and snow riding disciplines. Three to five days a week up until the snow flies, young athletes and their coaches both old and new will be meeting after school for strength, endurance and agility training through plyo-metrics, team sports, obstacle courses and many other fun and challenging activities to prepare for the upcoming season. Check with program directors for times and other details.
