New this year is a community-wide Cupcake War, with prizes awarded to the cupcake that best reflects this year’s “Spring Fling” theme. The public will vote on the cupcakes at the event in three categories: business, adult and children. Anyone interested in taking up the challenge should prepare one cupcake masterpiece and deliver it to the Community Center between 2 and 4 p.m. on June 8. The cupcakes will be on display during the event; voting closes at 7:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded at 7:45 p.m.
Ouray is also bringing back the popular cooking challenge. This year’s competition will pit two randomly selected local culinary masters against each other in a battle of local “mystery” meat and produce. They will have one hour to prepare and present two dishes to a panel of esteemed judges, who then crown the Ouray County Culinary Master. Any food or beverage professionals interested in participating should contact OCRA Marketing Director, Heidi Pankow, at 970/325-4746.
Live music and cooking activities for children will round out the event. Admission is free, and food and beverage tickets will be sold for $1 each.
