TELLURIDE – The Telluride Ski and Snowboard club announced the addition of Alex Paul as the head coach of the newly formed Telemark Park Team for the 2013-2014 ski season. Several student athletes expressed interest in park skiing last year, according to TSSC, that the organization decided to add a formal program at the end of last season. Paul, who is featured in many ski films, has won numerous competitions and tours the country as a judge.
Paul has already been busy on the team’s behalf. He has arranged for RMU skis and Flylow outerwear apparel are as official team sponsors, and is eyeing having athletes use Rotafella and Scarpa equipment.
To ensure his athletes sharpen their skills well before opening day, Paul has lined up a mid-November trip to Woodward at Copper Mountain, an indoor training facility where athletes can safely learn new tricks in a managed environment. The team will also enjoy VIP seating at the TEVA Tele Big Air World Competition at Vail in January, where Paul will be judging.
“Alex, one of the best jibbers and big air Tele skiers in the world will be a great addition to the Telemark Program,” said Program Director Theron Johnson. “His years of experience, knowledge of teaching technique for both park and aerials, experience in judging events and his ability to relate to kids make him a dream coach.”
No prior Telemark experience is needed to join the team. The team is limited to five athletes; three have already joined. For more information or to sign up, contact Johnson at 970/270-6851 or tjohnson@dipworldwide.
