The 1989 Kiki’s Delivery Service, an animated adventure from Hiyao Miyazaki (creator of My Neighbor Totoro), screens Sunday, March 30 at the Michael D. Palm Theatre at 4 p.m.

This screening of the G-rated film (perfect for all ages) is free.

Kiki (voice of Kirsten Dunst), a 13-year-old witch-in-training, must leave home to complete her education and learn how to live on her own. With her trusty cat, Jiji (voice of Phil Hartman), Kiki settles into a seaside town and uses her broom to begin a bakery delivery service.

Although Kiki is creative and resourceful, she finds that making new friends can be difficult and quickly discovers that she cannot take her abilities for granted.

This wonderful coming-of-age tale covers everything children dream about from flying to talking to animals to being independent. Miyazaki’s brilliantly animated and innocent tale is something the whole family will enjoy. Running time: 105 minutes. Sunday at the Palm" is presented by The Telluride Film Festival, The Telluride Foundation and Telluride R1 School District.

“Kiki’s Delivery Service is…one of the filmmaker’s gentlest, most heartwarming, most accessible films, one appropriate for all ages. A loosely structured coming-of-age story, Kiki’s Delivery Service features one of Miyazaki’s most personable protagonists, a delightful cast of supporting characters, and an episodic storyline full of charming incident and irresistible imagery.” – Stephen D.
