The loss marks the third straight impressive playoff run by the Mavericks, each one ending with a loss in the semifinal round.
The Mavericks finished the season with a sterling 10-2 record, with both losses coming at the hands of the Hoehne Farmers. Make no mistake about it though, Norwood’s potent offense this year, in combination with its stingy defense, should ensure the team will be back in the state championship hunt next year. This season, Norwood outscored its opponents a whopping 567-129.
To reach the semifinal game, the Mavericks beat Sangre de Cristo High School 53-0 on Nov. 5 and then squeaked by Walsh High School 29-28 on Nov. 12.
Hoehne, of Trinidad, will meet Dayspring Christian (Greeley), in a battle of undefeated 12-0 teams for the state title this Saturday, Nov. 26.
