Many of you are aware that San Miguel Power Association, Inc. (SMPA) is making changes to our Green Cents program that will ultimately affect your power bill. At their Nov. 18, 2009 meeting, the SMPA Board of Directors moved to switch Green Cents from an opt-in to an opt-out program. The automatic round-up is set to begin on the bill members will receive the first week in February.
That means all SMPA members will be automatically enrolled in Green Cents, and your monthly bill will be rounded up to the nearest dollar. We would like to thank, in advance, all those who will choose to remain in the program. At less than $1 per month, your contribution will make it possible for SMPA to fund energy efficiency and conservation projects in our local communities. If just half of our membership continues their participation, SMPA will raise approximately $35,000 per year for our local communities. That means your small commitment will make big changes.
We would also like to remind members that although you will be automatically enrolled in this program, participation is not mandatory. Members may opt-out of Greens Cent any time before the automatic round-up begins and any time thereafter. To opt out of the program contact your local SMPA office and speak with a customer service representative.
