Teachers at the Secondary School Encourage Informal Public Performance

RIDGWAY – Music students from both Ridgway and Ouray schools will hold an informal jam – they’re calling it Kids Jammin’ – at Cups in downtown Ridgway this Friday evening from 7 to 10 p.m.

Cups owner Jeanne Robertson has been hosting Friday night music on the store’s Backyard stage, and, according to Ridgway Middle School teacher Mary Haskins, “when Jeanne had an open date, I just said, why not get the kids up there to get some experience playing in front of their peers and the community?

“It won’t be a concert, or a formal recital. The format is going to be really open. Whoever wants to go first. Or two at a time. Just make it a jam session.”

These are some of the best music students at the schools, Haskins said. Most of them will play guitar. They are students of Ridgway’s guitar teacher Doug Graff. At least one will be bringing a keyboard. Haskins predicts there will be plenty of classic rock along with some original compositions. “They’ll be playing whatever they want to play.”
