Records Highlight Imogene Run

TELLURIDE, Sept. 10, 3:45 p.m. – Six new course records were set during the 34th installment of the 17.1-mile Imogene Pass Run from Ouray to Telluride on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Bernie Boettcher, of Silt, Colo. – running on his 45th birthday – won the event while also resetting his own Master Men’s record, and besting the 45-49 group record, by 10 minutes en route to finishing in 2 hours, 22.37 minutes. The previous record was set in 1993.

Lisa Goldsmith, 42, of Nederland, Colo., captured the Masters Women’s record while also setting the new 40-44 women’s record with her 2:41:24. Both of these records were previously held by Kari Distefano of Telluride.

Nat White, 66, of Flagstaff, Ariz., reset the men’s 65-69 age group record with a 3:19.48, and Carl Schwenk, 70, of Ridgway, claimed the men’s 70-plus record at 4:02.5.

Just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, 1,444 runners took off from Ouray to run up and over the 13,114-foot summit of Imogene Pass and down the other side, to reach Telluride by the 2:30 p.m. cutoff time. A total of 1,103 runners crossed the finish line.
