Toots & the Maytals Bring Anders Osborne Along for Acoustic Performance at Fort Lewis College
Anders Osborne can’t seem to get away from the Western Slope lately. After three separate shows at Telluride Blues & Brews, and two full sets at the KOTO Halloween Bash, Osborne is now returning for a rare acoustic appearance with ska legends Toots & the Maytals in Durango. Although mostly known for his heated rock-guitar playing, Osborne frequently hints at his affinity for island music when cooling down his sets. The pairing with Grammy winning band the Maytals will provide a chronological progression from early 60s ska music to the birth of mainstream reggae. The unique aspect of the evening will be that all the sonic vibes will be presented in the wholesome context of truly stripped down instrumentation. Expect a special night with two musical forces stepping outside in their comfort zone for an evening of classic and progressive Jamaican music.

Digital Beat Down Brings Denver Live Electronica to the Western Slope
In this DJ/producer reign of power that dominates the airwaves right now, the live instrumentation subsection of electronic music fights to maintain a well earned spot in the genre’s thriving battleground. Denver has become a stronghold for these two forces that manage to coexist, but tastemakers and purists still tend to gravitate toward a devolution from computer beats to the actual instruments in the live setting. Digital Beat Down is one of those Front Range outfits that is keeping the dream alive with their take fresh take on dubstep and house music by employing physical drums and stacks of synthesizer keyboards. The liberation from turntables and Mac Books allow for the duo of Andrew Lubner and Nick Pilz to enter into psychedelic journeys of live looping and tension building dance beats. Check them out this Saturday at The Summit in Durango.

Everclear and Eve 6 Continue The 90s Nostalgia In Grand Junction
Last week the quintessential 90s alternative music proxies the Toadies and Helmet came through Grand Junction and rocked the Mesa Theater. On Monday their sonic era peers Everclear and Eve 6 will continue the flashback theme with performances at the same location. Everclear, much like The Toadies and Helmet, only have one original member. Luckily it happens to be frontman Art Alexakis, which means the gifted lyricist and singer will be playing through his anthemic tracks of troubled youth like “Father Of Mine,” failed relationships like “Santa Monica,” and numerous tunes about his struggles with drug use like. Eve 6 is another band that saw it’s hiatuses and disbanding of members, but in its current form the three original members fill out the trio. Both acts hit platinum status with chart topping West Coast alternative rock singles in the post-grunge peak of the 90s, and plan to belt out those timeless tunes to kick off the work week.
