MONTROSE — Even with recreational use marijuana becoming legal at the stroke of midnight Tuesday, there were no reports of marijuana-related crime in Montrose. However, police had to deal with the inebriated.

The new year was welcomed in a variety of ways. One man was busted setting off fireworks in the back alley behind the Suds bar; another yelled and screamed at police, threw a beer can, and tried to flee officers before being taken to jail.

There were reports of "shots fired" but mostly those were fireworks, although one man was reported to have fired a high powered rifle moments after midnight had passed. A fight along Main Street brought out EMS after one man missed his intended target and punched out a window. A disturbance south of town brought officers to a house with a busted front window, however there were no arrests.

The Montrose Police Department did its best to keep the peace, getting help from the Montrose Fire Protection District and Montrose County Sheriff's Office.
