Editor:

There is an important election coming up, and I will be voting for Art Goodtimes for county commissioner. Here are some of my reasons.

As a true west end resident, he understands the diversity within San Miguel County.  For example, Art championed the removal of the building codes for the west end while also supporting strong land planning in the Telluride region. We need a leader who lives in our community and is able to truly represent the whole county.

The national economic difficulties have impacted the west-end of our county severely. But consider that, under Art’s last term, the county has remained fiscally sound, while continuing to keep our needed services (roads) strong. Under Art’s leadership, San Miguel County has won CDOT support for several extensive road projects in our area.

We are very fortunate to have a dedicated county commissioner who is also a statesman. Art Goodtimes has contacts and influence on both the state and national level. He is deeply respected for his intellect and collaborative negotiations, having received several awards from the U.S. Forest Service and the Secretary of Interior. His state and national knowledge has positive benefits for our county. The PES project, a pilot program Art is working on, aims to help ranchers keep their land in agriculture, a valued part of Wrights Mesa.

In summary, Art Goodtimes cares about all of San Miguel County. We need one representative who lives in the west end. Please vote for Art Goodtimes for county commissioner. I certainly will be.
