On April 23, U14 Ouray County Lightning played Crested Butte at home; Falconer McCarty scored the first goal in this tight game, with Crested Butte scoring to tie it up for the half. The Lightning offense looked good, but just couldn’t seem to score, while CB got busy and scored two goals in the second half for the win.

Also on April 23, U14 Ouray County Lightning played Montrose Villains Co-ed at home. Coaches Fletcher and Bojar moved players around for this home game and found some good goal-scorers lurking in the Lightning defense and mid-field. The leading goal-scorers were Sarah Pankow and Dillon Nafziger who each scored 2 goals. Jessica Walsh, Eli Hagemeyer, and Trevor Darcy each scored a goal for the shut-out win.

On April 25, the U14 Ouray County Lightning played Montrose Avalanche, in Montrose. Lightning players Miller-Cunningham and Falconer-McCarty surprised this strong Montrose team with a nice goal scored early in the first half. After that, the Lightning offense just couldn’t get it past the excellent Montrose goal keeper, while the Montrose offense went to work to penetrate the Lightning defense and score six goals for the win.
Final Score: Lightning 1, Montrose 6.
On April 30, the U14 Ouray County Lightning played Durango U14 at Durango. The
Lightning struck first in this close game with a goal by Miller-Cunningham off a “bounce-back” from the Durango keeper. Both teams missed many shots on goal, keeping the game tight until Durango came out ahead by one.
Final Score: Lightning 1, Durango 2.
Also on April 30, the U14 Ouray County Lightning played U13 Durango at Durango; the game started out close against the Durango U13 team, with Josh Zaugg scoring a goal from a Falconer-McCarty pass and Durango scoring two goals for a 1-3 score at halftime. Miller-Cunningham scored a Lightning goal early in the second half, but Durango kept scoring against the Lightning defense, who just couldn’t seem to get the bases covered. Quinlin McNatt scored a nice “bounce-back” goal from a shot taken by teammate Haley Crozier, but it was too late for the Lightning team, who lost, 3-6.
