Barbara Peterson, a 28 year Ouray resident, has recently received some very good news to celebrate – her breast cancer is in complete remission. Earlier this year, Barbara was shocked to find out she had been diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 breast cancer. At the direction of her doctors, she began chemotherapy treatment immediately and on August 3 she was told her cancer was in complete remission. “The doctor told me that I must have a very strong constitution to be doing as well as I was,” she said.

In May, the Ouray Elks Lodge hosted a benefit dinner for Barbara to help defray some of the exorbitant medical costs she was incurring. The event saw approximately 150 attendees and the dinner and donations helped raise enough money for her to continue with the medical treatment. “I was completely overtaken with the support of the people that showed for the benefit. I had always been on the other side of the fence helping others. It was a very humbling experience, and one that I will never forget. The outpouring of all the people who attended was incredible.”

Barbara is more than excited about the good news – she’s elated and would like to tell the entire community how much their thoughts and prayers have meant to her. She is eternally gratefully for the love and support. “Thank you so much for all the cards, prayers and gifts that I received during my illness. I cannot begin to thank everyone for all they have done. I love you all so dearly.”

With great appreciation and thanks.
