Shooting Victim Airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital; Condition Unknown

MONTROSE – Naturita resident Ronald McGuffee, 48, is being held on first-degree assault charges at Montrose County Jail after allegedly shooting at a vehicle Monday, hitting the driver.

The shooting occurred Monday, July 23, just after 11 p.m. outside of Ron's Repair Center, 440 W. Main St., in Naturita, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

The center is owned by McGuffee, according to his Facebook page.

According to the CBI, McGuffee, who was arguing with Brandon Pacheco, 35, outside the repair center, allegedly flashed a handgun. When Pacheco fled the scene in a vehicle with another individual, McGuffee allegedly fired a shot at that vehicle; a bullet struck Pacheco, inside the car.

Pacheco was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction; his condition was unknown as of Thursday.

Police put out an alert Tuesday morning regarding the incident, saying McGuffee could be armed and dangerous. McGuffee turned himself in to CBI agents in Montrose Tuesday, July 24, at 1 p.m.

The Naturita Town Marshal's Office is investigating the case, as is CBI, whose Forensics Unit processed the crime scene and collected evidence connected to the incident. Colorado State Patrol and the Montrose County Sheriff's Office also provided assistance in the case, which is still under investigation.
