Montrose Attempted Murder Fugitive Captured 26 Years Later

MONTROSE – A former Montrose resident, who has been a fugitive for 26 years after shooting another man in the head, was captured by the U.S. Border Patrol in California last month. He has since been returned to Montrose, where he is being held in the county jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Raul Perez-Ramirez, 48, allegedly shot his victim, Lucio C. “Domingo” Diaz, in the head after losing to him in a game of pool at the B&C Lounge in Olathe on Oct. 6, 1985.

Cmdr. Gene Lillard of the Montrose Police Department, who was working that night, remembers the incident, he said. Diaz survived, but lost an eye.
