OURAY – Where do you go for awarding-winning brews in an outdoor “chillin’” environment with live music and a bounce house? Ouray’s Fellin Park is the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 29 for the 2nd Annual Grillin’ Chillin’ and Thrillin’ Brewfestival.
Among the 13 Colorado Breweries in attendance will be Colorado Boy, Ourayle House, SKA Brewing, Revolution Brewing, Silverton Brewing, Three Rivers, New Belgium, Durango Brewery, and Palisade Brewing. There will also be live music by Greg Eagle and the Abby Maxwell Band, a zip and slack line, kick ball, and other games and fun for the family.
Along with the bluegrass and folk music of Greg Eagle, the festival will host the classic R&B, soul, rock and blues of the Abby Maxwell Band of New Mexico. Made up of premier musicians, songwriters and performers, the band has worked with such world-class artists as Sonia Dada, Natalie Cole, Mavis Staples and Graham Nash, among others. They are a tight-knit group that performs classic songs from the 1960s to the present, with incredible skill and dynamic stage presence.
Those who wish to partake in the microbrew tasting, a refillable-cup costs $20. There will also be a non-alcoholic beverage station, a Ouray Elks Lodge pig roast, and fresh juice, grilled veggies and grilled fruit provided by Morning Song Bed and Breakfast.
Adding an element of excitement, Ouray’s San Juan Mountain Guides will be stringing a 380-foot zip-line across the park. Attendees can zip across the park for a small fee. For smaller tykes there will be a kids’ bounce house and a puppet show.
Grab a ride to the event from Ouray Mile and Carriage, which will make periodic stops at local hotels and on the corner of 6th and Main.
Those who prefer to earn their chill time might want to consider participating in the Mt. Sneffels Half Marathon Run and Walk, which begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. The 13.1-mile course begins at the Ouray Hot Springs Pool, winding through the city of Ouray and down County Road 23 along the Uncompahgre River to the town of Ridgway. A one-mile fun run for kids starts at 11 a.m. on the Ridgway soccer fields. Both races have registration fees and are fundraisers for the Mt. Sneffels Education Foundation benefiting area youth.
