The IRS has begun a program of revoking the tax-exempt status of not-for-profit organizations that have not filed information returns (Form 990-N, 990-EZ, 990, or 990-PF) for the last three years. At least one of these forms is due annually even if the organization is dormant.
Recently the IRS announced that it will delay revocation until October 15 and published the list of about 300,000 organizations that are at risk. The list is organized by state and can be viewed at www.irs.gov. There is also a very good report on what revocation means at www.guidestar.org.
Of the organizations on the at risk list for San Miguel County, I have contacted the ones for which I could identify a person. I am not aware of a connection for the following list. If you are a member of the following or know someone who is, please give them a heads up that the organization is about to lose its tax exempt status.
