DELTA – Interagency resources from the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management are suppressing the Franks Bench Fire, burning on the Uncompahgre National Forest lands three miles south of Uranium Rd. and approximately five miles south and west of the Divide Forks Campground and ATV Complex. Detected on August 16, the fire was sparked lightning from an earlier storm; it has grown to 35 acres in size.
According to a spokesperson Tuesday, there was nothing new to report about the fire's size.
The fire is burning in remote and rugged terrain. Firefighters are working to suppress the fire, but due to the hazardous terrain, suppression and containment will occur in areas which can be safely accessed by firefighters.
One BLM engine, two wildland fire crews and miscellaneous support personnel are currently on the fire. No structures are threatened.
There are no road or trail closures at this time, but the USFS urges the public to avoid the affected area. This includes trails in the Blue Creek Park area (FST 618, 619,620, 630,632, and 643).
