OURAY COUNTY -- The Ouray County Performing Arts Guild recently awarded scholarships to four area students who have chosen to further their education in the arts. The three graduating seniors each received scholarships of $1,500.

Scholarships were awarded to Jessica Stout of Ridgway High School, who will attend Belmont University where she will continue performing and songwriting and pursue a degree in music business; Jake Abell of Ouray High School, who will attend George Mason University working toward a double major in theater and film; and Emily Johannessen of Montrose High School, who will attend Wartburg College where she plans to study piano and guitar and to work toward a certificate in music therapy.

OCPAG also awarded $300 to Stormy Pyeatte, who will be a senior at Ridgway High School next fall, to enable her to attend a week-long intensive class with the Telluride Summer Ballet.
