He makes quality films, no doubt, but if quantity were the gauge, Michael Winterbottom would certainly be cinema’s gold medalist. The London-based director has directed 14 films during the past 10 years.  The one that has taken the longest? Everyday, filmed over the course of five years.

Winterbottom wasn’t slow to the finish; the plan was always to track the story of a marriage after the husband is arrested over the course of years. Everyday serves a longitudinal study of modern love, crime and punishment. Winterbottom troupe member John Simm plays a man convicted for drug smuggling; his wife is played by Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films, Trainspotting, Topsy-Turvy and Life During Wartime).
