Montrose City Council approved Duree’s separation agreement, voting unanimously in a special meeting Thursday to accept the agreement. The details of that agreement are expected to be made public Friday, according to City Manager Bill Bell.
"I've enjoyed my time here,” Duree said after the meeting, “and I have enjoyed working with the employees here at the city.
“They are a fantastic group of individuals, and I wish them the best,” Duree said following the meeting.
“I just feel it is time for me to look at retiring, and maybe going fishing," he added.
According to a press release, Duree has agreed to remain the city's attorney until a replacement can hired. A nationwide recruitment process is now underway, it further stated.
"Nine-plus years in such a role is to be commended,” Montrose Mayor Thomas Smits said. Of Duree’s resignation, she said, “I wish him and his wife, Teresa, all the best. Duree attended at Western State in Gunnison as an undergraduate, and studied law at San Antonio State, in Texas.
He has been practicing law since 1979.
The city attorney serves as legal counsel to the city council.
