The child, who arrived at the Montrose Hospital emergency room on Thursday, Oct. 7, unconscious and in critical condition, was flown to Children’s Hospital in Denver.
Despite intensive-care treatment, he was declared dead Saturday, Oct. 9, at 12:05 p.m.
The baby’s death is being investigated by Montrose police and the coroner’s office.
The results of an autopsy in Adams County have not yet been released, but Canfield said Wednesday night that the incident was not being treated as a homicide.
Cmdr. Gene Lillard of the Montrose police had no more information, but said he believed the autopsy was conducted Tuesday.
