On Tuesday evening, I attended the Montrose Community Foundation grant award ceremony at Holiday Inn Express. The room was filled with the finest people from our community. The Foundation puts civic-minded donors and deserving charitable organizations together. As our outstanding Montrose Memorial Hospital likes to say, it is friends and family caring for friends and family. The room was filled with people who really care about our community and those who call it home. Over a dozen grants were awarded to a wide spectrum of recipient organizations, who feed, clothe, mentor, protect, house and care for our neighbors, friends and strangers. In a world filled with negativity and bad news, it was indeed a wonderful experience to be surrounded by folks motivated only by doing good for their fellow men, women and children. Our organization, C.A.S.A. (court appointed special advocates) for the 7th Judicial District, dba Voices for Children, which protects abused and neglected children in the court system, was one of those grant recipients. On behalf of our volunteers and the children we represent, Thank you, M.C.F. The funds will be used to protect those children who cannot help themselves in an increasingly frightening world.
