Friends of the Wright Opera House Plan to Purchase, Upgrade Historic Community Building

OURAY – Miracle on 34th Street will be the Ouray County Players’ Third Annual Christmas Radio Show, with a 7:30 p.m. performance on Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Wright Opera House, and a Sunday, Dec. 6 matinee at 3 p.m.

The play, featuring the Ouray County Players, and directed by Nancy Nixon, with musical direction from Nancy Ziglar, follows the 1948 LUX Radio Theater performance script, based on the 1947 film by Valentine Davies.

LUX Radio Theater, a pioneer in radio drama, broadcast live programs with studio audiences in the mid-20th century, creating a new format in home and studio entertainment; many LUX performances are now available as Oldtime Radio podcasts.

Advance tickets are for sale at Cimarron Coffee and Books in Ridgway; at Buckskin Booksellers and Khristopher’s Culinaire in Ouray; and, in Montrose, at Ouray Silversmith. Tickets are $10 per person and $25 per family (parents and children).

Live sound effects are directed by Nancy Nixon.

For more information, contact Dee Williams, events director for the Friends of the Wright Opera House, at 970/325-4932, in Ouray.

Performances are sponsored by the Alpine Banks in Ridgway and Ouray, as a fundraiser for the Purchase Fund for the Friends of the Wright Opera House, which hopes to purchase the Wright next year, upgrading its performance spaces and making its non-retail spaces home to the Ouray County Arts Center.
