We were all shocked and saddened this week with the passing of our friend “Mr. Dick.”
We the crew at the Buen Tiempo knew and loved him and his stories well.
His stories would captivate even the most weary tourist, while secretly buying them a drink. However, one rarely ever had the chance to buy him a round, because he had only one drink with dinner. He was always a true gentleman with a great sense of humor.
He would say every night when given his bill, “A dollar and a half? Again?” and then look back at us and say, “It’s the seat rent that hurts me!”
Every once in a while he would shoot one of us a new joke to pass on to the locals, and laughter would cascade down the bar.
We’ve had the pleasure of serving and getting to know Mr. Dick for 15 years since the restaurant opened.
Mr. Dick is the only person ever to have a plaque on his barstool, and we have temporarily retired his barstool, as a tribute to a great man and a great friend. So long, Mr. Dick, from your friends at the Buen Tiempo.
