A heartfelt thanks to the 50-plus volunteers and local groups that helped put on the first annual Ouray Mountain Trail Run. To the Ouray Trails Group, thank you for preparing the 13.9-mile circular course over the past several months. To the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team, thank you for being there in the event someone was injured. To Ouray County EMS, thank you for being on standby during the entire race.

To all the individual volunteers that hiked into remote places and stood out in the cold and wind all day, thank you for supporting our effort. To the La Sportiva corporation, thank you for your support of our community. To the Ouray Chamber Resort Association, Ouray Chalet Inn and Ouray Comfort Inn, thank you for your overly generous donations that helped us get Ouray’s newest not-for-profit corporation and event off the ground.

To the Tisdel Law Firm and all the other local businesses that donated both legal advice, goods and monies, thank you. To one of the best not-for-profit board of directors that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with – Melissa Rajkowski, Tracey Roxby, Mike and Sandi Macleod, Rick Noll, Kevin Koprek, Joanne Kneafsey… Thank you for your tireless efforts and dedication. To Don and Brenda Modeen, thank you for all the hours you put into marking the course.

The race was a huge success in many ways. No one was injured. The race attracted 56 runners from around the region in its first year, including a rumored two-time past National Marathon winner and confirmed past Imogene Pass Run winner. Many of the runners said this was one of, if not the, “Best Trail Run in Colorado” due to its challenging nature, scenery and loops in and out of town.

Most importantly the race raised several thousand dollars in its first year that will be donated back to local outdoor youth recreational programs. The Ouray Mountain Trail Run has a great future because of the great community supporting it.

See you in 2009!!
