DURANGO – On Aug. 17, the Bureau of Land Management’s Tres Rios Field Office released a preliminary environmental assessment for public review that analyzes offering 12 parcels of federal land in the Feb. 14, 2013, competitive oil and gas lease sale.
The parcels in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Miguel counties consist of 3,369 BLM-managed acres, 7,766 private surface acres and 1,040 acres managed by the State of Colorado. All parcels are federally owned minerals.
“Reviewing the environmental assessment gives the public an opportunity to submit specific comments on potential parcels in the lease sale, and allows the field staff to incorporate the public input into the analysis,” said Connie Clementson, BLM Tres Rios field manager.
The State of Colorado receives 49 percent of the proceeds of each lease sale. In Fiscal Year 2011, Colorado received more than $154 million from royalties, rentals and bonus bid payments for all federal minerals, including oil and gas. Statewide, there are more than 22,900 jobs tied to mineral and energy development on public lands, according to the BLM press release.
Before including address, phone number, email address, or other personal identifying information in any comment on the assessment, everyone should be aware that the entire comment – including personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. Anyone can request in a comment to withhold personal identifying information from public review but the BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to do so.
