In a press release obtained Saturday morning from Ridgway Marshal D.J. Scott, the 21-year-old victim was shot in the stomach with a handgun.
At approximately 11:15 p.m., Scott received a call of a shooting at an apartment in the 100 block of S. Liddell in Ridgway.
According to the press release, the suspect, who had recently moved to Ridgway from Tennessee, arrived at his S. Liddell apartment from work, took a shower and then had a couple beers. He was then invited to the next-door apartment, where upon entry was handed what he thought was a B-B type handgun. He fired the weapon, shooting the victim in the stomach with what turned out to be a high-caliber handgun.
The victim, who moved to the Ridgway approximately six months ago from Boulder to live and work in the area, was treated on the scene by Ouray EMS and then transported to Montrose Medical Center.
The suspect is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and prohibited use of a firearm.
Scott was assisted on scene by Ouray Police Chief Tony Chelf.
