Seventy-four 3rd graders from Telluride Elementary School recently participated in an overnight field trip to Mesa Verde and the Anasazi Heritage Center to kick off our unit on the Ancestral Puebloans.
This opportunity would not have been possible without substantial funding from our newly formed philanthropic group We R-1. We are so lucky that this wonderful organization assists Telluride schools by helping to provide our students with experiential learning.
Students learned and studied about the Ancestral Puebloans for two exciting days, touring ruins and observing artifacts that were left by the people who lived in the four corners area over 800 years ago. We R-1’s support allowed us to have a 3-1 student-to-adult ratio for this adventure, ensuring that each child was safe, supported and received individual attention when visiting sites and museums.
Another shout out goes to our amazing parent volunteers who guided student learning; without them this trip would not have been possible. We are so grateful to live in such a supportive and caring community.
