Manuel Gonzales-Luna, 24, was arrested and booked in the San Miguel County Jail for possession of cocaine, obstructing a peace officer, third-degree assault, resisting arrest, menacing and child abuse, without injury, after two Telluride Marshal’s deputies responded to Shandoka on a report of a domestic disturbance just after midnight.
After listening outside the apartment door for several moments, the two responding deputies knocked on the door and was opened by “a very intoxicated” Gonzales-Luna, according to the police report. A female and a 9-year-old child were in the apartment with Gonzales-Luna at the time. The woman had to restrain Gonzales-Luna, as deputies repeatedly tried to get him to speak with them, outside the apartment.
Outside, the police asked Gonzales-Luna if there had been any arguments earlier in the evening. Acting “very upset and very aggressive” toward the deputies, Gonzales-Luna punched a pillar in the stairwell, and then punched a handrail, whereupon the deputies explained to him that if they were called back to the apartment, they would have to make an arrest.
With Gonzales-Luna back in the apartment, the deputies knocked on a neighbor’s door to further investigate the disturbance. When Gonzales-Luna then opened up his door again, beocming “confrontational” once again, the deputies arrested Gonzales-Luna, who began punching and kicking them, as they restrained him.
Gonzales-Luna also threatened to kill both of the deputies’ daughters.
While one deputy unlocked the patrol car, Gonzales-Luna threw his head back and struck him in the nose. After Gonzales-Luna was restrained, deputies found 23 small baggies, each with one gram of cocaine, in his pockets, along with $2,698.
Gonzalez-Luna is being held at the San Miguel County Jail on $60,000 bond. According to the San Miguel County Sherriff’s Office, Gonzales-Luna is an undocumented immigrant and U.S. Customs and Immigration officials will take custody of when charges have been filed. No trial date has been set.
