The people who moved in over the ridge have abused the word Telluride left and right since Mr. Allred took over the region's tourism 25 years ago, of course, but here a telling low: that same homeowners association recently plopped a "Telluride" in front of it: TMVOA. There's not a thing Telluride about it, but apparently they're so embarrassed by their value structure, they do all they can to hide the fact that Mountain Village is a distinct as well as alien place. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see Mountain Village, Telluride, stand alone, market itself alone, tell the world exactly what Mountain Village stands for, and invite its kind of people to their kind of place. And leave Telluride the hell alone.
Please join me in beseeching our ten elected officials to dismantle the joint tourism organization immediately, and eliminate the four 'Come for a Night, Stay a Lifetime' tourism subsidies (totaling over $2,000,00 per year) that our governors funnel to a private industry whose ingratitude and callousness towards local values know no bounds.
