Annual Montrose/Olathe School District Art Show Coming in April
MONTROSE – Mark your calendars for April 16, opening day for the Montrose County School District Re-1’s fourth annual student art show, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
The show runs through April 27, at the Region 10 Enterprise Center, 300 North Cascade Ave.
“This is kind of like the Super Bowl for the district’s art students,” organizer and Montrose High School arts educator Ann Marie Fleming said. “They really strive to prepare and showcase their best work.”
The art show also offers the chance to encourage out-of-the-box thinking, Fleming noted.
“I like the idea that we can celebrate those few people who think differently,” she said.
This is the second year the show has been held at Region 10, notes Region 10 Executive Director Paul Gray.
“Last year I was just blown away by the talent on display,” Gray said. “These students need to be championed for their unique gifts.”
The National Endowment for the Arts reports that Colorado is fifth in the nation, with number of artists per capita; according to Colorado Creates, the creative arts represent the state’s fifth largest employment sector.
The show is made possible through the cooperation of the Region 10 League for Economic Assistance & Planning, the City of Montrose and Montrose County School District Re-1J.
Region 10 League for Economic Assistance and Planning is a six-county (Montrose, Delta, Gunnison, Ouray, Hinsdale and San Miguel) non-profit organization that, in addition to the Enterprise Center, administers the Enterprise Zone tax credit and marketing grant programs, oversees the Area Agency on Aging, coordinates regional transportation planning, and operates a small business loan program.
