This class will be perfect for new students learning the basics and also for experienced dancers looking for new and exciting patterns. No partner is required. In these group classes, Donna and Rick will rotate partners frequently to get students comfortable with a variety of different people. It is great, however, to get your spouse or friend to enroll with you and go through the process together so that you have someone to practice and dance with outside of class.
Beginner West Coast Swing will be offered on Wednesday evenings in September in Ridgway, with classes beginning Wednesday, Sept. 8 and continuing through Sept. 29, 7-8:30 p.m. Classes are structured for solid instruction from 7-8 p.m., and then, at 8 p.m., for students to begin practicing the dances as a group.
Students are encouraged to register with Weehawken Creative Arts by Sept. 6. Costs for Weehawken Members: If enrolling and paying on or before Sept. 6 $55; $59 after Sept. 6. Non-Members: If enrolling and paying on or before Sept. 6 $59; $63 after Sept. 6.

Ikebana, the Art of Japanese Floral Arranging, at Weehawken Sept. 2
If you're looking for an artistic and beautiful capstone to your summer in Ouray County, look no further. Weehawken Creative Arts is offering a fun and hands-on experience with Sensei Carol Brecker on Thursday, Sept. 2, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., with “Ikebana: Japanese Floral Arranging.”
Ikebana, the art of Japanese Flower Arranging, is the creative display of natural materials with attention to the harmony of line, color, space and dimension. Unlike western-style floral arrangements, characterized by volume, color and complexity, ikebana embraces the spare, poetic beauty of line.
In this workshop, students will create a live Ikebana arrangement under the direction of Brecker with live flowers and materials. At the conclusion of each class, students will be able to take their fresh arrangement home with them. Students are encouraged to register with Weehawken for this workshop by August 27th. The cost of this workshop for new students is as follows: Students Enrolling and paying by or before August 27 (discount deadline): WCA Member: $36; Non-WCA Member: $39: Students Enrolling or paying after August 27th (discount deadline): WCA Member: $39; Non-WCA Member: $43.
Rates for returning students are available at www.weehawkenarts.org. Complete information, instructor biography and online registration is available with Weehawken Creative Arts. Newspaper class schedules with plenty of details can be found at the Wright Opera House in Ouray and at Kate's Place and Mountain Market in Ridgway. Further, a complete online lineup is always available at www.weehawkenarts.org. This course will be highlighted on the "Horticulture" tab on Weehawken's website. Prospective students can also obtain more information or register over the phone by calling Ashley King at 970/318-0150.
