LINCOLN THE MOVIE
LINCOLN THE MOVIE
The Telluride community can collectively thank part time locals and Hollywood producers, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshal for generously arranging for the town to have a special one night screening of Steven Spielberg’s seven Golden Globe nominated film‘Lincoln’, on Wednesday 2nd January, at the Michael D Palm Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. They can be bought in advance through the Palm Theatre website or purchased on the night. Disney has generously agreed to provide special Lincoln playbills for this event; but quantities are limited so be sure to get there early.
This event is produced by Sparky Productions. It is a ‘SPARKbenefit’ in aid of the seventh annual Telluride Playwrights Festival. Lincoln is a fitting movie for a Playwrights Festival benefit, as the screenwriter Tony Kushner is one of America’s most revered and talented award-winning playwrights.
Lincoln is also a perfect movie to start the New Year. It’s a movie that celebrates the highest ideals of mankind and one that will invariably ‘spark’ discussion and debate, which is what Sparky Productions is all about. This year Sparky is branching out to contribute to the cultural diversity of the community, through plays and films. On January 10thSparkFILM will commence the first in a series of free monthly films, in collaboration with the Wilkinson Public Library, with discussions led by screenwriter Jeffrey Price.
The Telluride Playwrights Festival is excited to be part of an inaugural ‘week of Theatre in Telluride’ this July, along with the Telluride Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park, the town will be able to be immersed in new plays and old. This year’s Playwrights Festival will take place from 23rd to 28th July at the Historic Sheridan Opera House.
